Nature is a miraculous thing, and has the answer to most things. Most modern medicines are based on botanical or microbiological extracts, and many were discovered by accident. It is therefore logical to look to nature to see if we can find a natural alternative to some of the problems we encounter in everyday life. We all know that in order to stay fit and healthy we need a variety of fresh produce, with all the vitamins, minerals and nutrients they can provide to keep us well. We need to keep our bodies in good physical shape in order for our bodies to function as efficiently as possible. But modern, stressful living and working can still leave us vulnerable to illness and we want natural remedies to help us cope. There is a rising incidence in allergies and asthma sufferers, and we are often looking for an alternative to always medicating with strong medicines. Chinese or herbal medicines are becoming possible substitutes, as are alternative therapies such as reflexology and acupuncture. The ideal would be to find an effective and natural way to help our body to cope with these modern ailments. BEExcell PWE13 may be one of these natural medicines that could help for these and many more minor ailments. BEExcell is of course, not intended to replace traditional therapies for those worst affected, but can in the milder cases, act as an adjuvant to conventional therapy. Products made using BEExcell can help to alleviate the symptoms of asthma and common colds, reduce the allergic response and stimulate the immune system. Studies have also shown it has antibacterial, anti-viral, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, local anaesthetic and cell regeneration properties. Raw Propolis is a natural substance produced by bees, which they use to protect their hives. They collect resins from tree buds, and alter this enzymatically in their mouths, depositing it around the entrance of the hive and using it to repair cracks. This is the substance that acts as a barrier, preventing bacterial, viral and fungal infections. Undesirably in its natural form it is full of waxes, pollens and physical contaminants. It also carries the risk of contamination from pesticide and herbicide residues. BEExcell PWE13 is water extracted Propolis, which has been branded with a new brand name to distinguish it from many other Propolis extracts. Most Propolis products on the market are based on organic solvent extracts of raw Propolis. This extraction process regrettably extracts many undesirable components as well as the beneficial compounds. BEExcell is produced using a patented water extraction process that does not extract the contaminating compounds, but extracts all the active components. It has been tested in numerous clinical trials and has been reported to have a wide range of benefits and actions.Diane Burgess, Technical Manager, Brøste A/S
Many studies have been conducted over the past 20 years on the beneficial effects of natural medicines such as BEExcell PWE13.Asthma A clinical pharmacological study, investigated the effect of BEExcell PWE13 on asthma patients. Involving 45 adults with mild to moderate asthma for 2 months, it was placebo controlled blind. This study demonstrated that when used as an adjuvant to traditional therapy, BEExcell PWE13 could significantly reduce the number of nocturnal asthma attacks, from an average of 2.5 attacks per week to only 1, and their severity. During the study the pulmonary functions were also tested, and found to improve quite dramatically during the 2 months. Pulmonary functions had improved by 19-41%, and immunological parameters also decreased by 30-65%. Khayyal MT et al., Fundamental & Clinical Pharmacology 17 (2003) 93-102 Bactericide The bactericidal effect of Propolis against agents causing upper respiratory tract infections, in vitro was studied. It was found that BEExcell PEW13 demonstrated an antimicrobial activity in vitro against strains isolated from patients with upper respiratory tract infections. Focht et al., Arzneim-Forsch/Drug Res 43 (II), 8 (1993) Anti-inflammatory BEExcell PWE13 tested in rats are shown to have a potent dose-related anti-inflammatory activity, which compared well to diclofenac (the reference standard). It was shown to effect the release of prostaglandulins, leucotrines and histamines. It was concluded that this Propolis extract has potent anti-inflammatory properties in vivo. It’s activity can be well correlated on the release of various mediators of inflammation.Khayyal MT et al., Drugs Exptl. Clin. Res. XIX (5) 197-203 (1993) Oral health The antimicrobial effects of BEExcell PWE13 were tested against both gram positive and some gram negative organisms isolated from the oral cavity and the oropharynx. The minimum inhibitory concentrations were determined using a wide range of broths appropriate to each genus. BEExcell PWE13 inhibited most oral and pharyngeal bacteria at <0.9mg/ml and the majority of organisms tested had a minimum bacteriocidal concentration of <0.9mg/ml. This indicates that oral and pharyngeal micoflora may be inhibited in vivo with similar concentrations of BEExcell PWE13.Brailsford SR et al., GKT Dental Institute London UK; Dandy A/S Veijle, DK (2001) Radiation damage Treatment with BEExcell PWE13 before and after exposure to gamma radiation stimulated the release of anti-oxidant chemicals and protected against inflammatory responses induced by gamma radiation.El-Ghazaly MA et al., Drugs Exptl. Clin. Res. XXI (6) 229-236 (1995) Toxicity of carbon tetrachloride The protective effect of BEExcell against the hepatotoxicity of carbon tetrachloride was investigated. It was found that BEExcell conferred a dose related protection against the induced cell injury, as evidenced by its inhibitory influence on the changes induced by CCl4 on the measured perameters. The release of lactate dehydrogenase, the formation of lipid peroxidases, and the depletion of intracellular reduced gluthione. The hepatocyte protective effect of BEEWxcell is probably the result of its antioxidant and free-radical scavenging properties which in turn help to maintain the intracellular level of reduced glutathione.Mahran LG et al., Drugs Exptl. Clin. Res. XXII (6) 309-316 (1996) Histamine release The effect of BEEcell PWE13 on cellular migration, oedema formation and prostaglandin release was studied. The effect of BEExcell on the release of histamine was also investigated. The effect of the BEExcell compared with the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, diclofenac. BEExcell reduced the concentration of prostaglandulin in the exudate as well as the volume and leukocyte count of the later. BEExcell significantly reduced the release of histamine, both in normal and irradiated subjects, the effect of BEExcell was in a dose dependant manner. These results may help to elucidate further the mechanism of action of BEExcell as an anti-inflammatory agent. BEExcell by inhibiting the inflammatory mediators, may thus be of value in counteracting the damaging effect of acute radiation syndrome as in the case of radiotheraphy.El-Ghazaly et al., J Egypt Soc Toxicol. Vol 16; 69-73 (Jan 1996) Diane Burgess, Technical Manager, Brøste A/S
